With a career spanning over 17 years in the weight management industry, Sonja has helped thousands of people to successfully regain their health and vitality using a multi-faceted and holistic approach to health and weight management.

Her passion for helping others is ultimately what led her to starting the Australian College of Weight Management & Allied Health and developing the nationally and internationally accredited 10698NAT Diploma of Weight Management and 10576NAT/10859NAT Certificate IV in Weight Management as she recognised the need for a platform within the industry which would teach, promote and encourage cross-pollination and collaboration of the many disciplines that make up the weight management industry.

Sonja strongly believes that in order to make an impact on world health and obesity, both academia and the different disciplines across multiple industries need to work together instead of operating in ‘stand-alone silos’ as is currently the case.

Our core commitment at the Australian College of  Weight Management & Allied Health is to continue to build on this foundation and, through collaborating with a vast network of experts to deliver courses (and through membership with our sister company Global Weight Management Federation), unite industries for the betterment of health outcomes, weight management and obesity prevention.

I worked as a General Practitioner for over 30 years and Sports Medicine Doctor for 20 years. I worked with all range of patients in General Practice and a number of elite teams in Sports Medicine. When I left practice, I decided to pursue my passion for fitness by becoming a certified Personal Trainer specialising in over 40s,  post cancer and post- surgical clients. To complement the training, I realised the need to further my knowledge in Weight Management and nutrition and enrolled in the Diploma course at the Australian College of Weight Management. I had also completed a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment particularly to train and assess First Aid. It has lead to becoming part of the Training & Assessment Team for this College since I have seen the importance of weight management.  I am now a passionate Personal Trainer and Weight Management Practitioner and love helping students in their studies in these areas.

Health and wellbeing has always been a passion of mine and was the start of my fascination with the complexity of human body systems and how they adapt to situations. I pursued my Bachelor in Dental Surgery soon after year 12 and practiced as a dental surgeon. I left my practice to move to Australia and worked in Aged care, disability and allied health sectors for 15 years. I went on to complete postgraduate studies in Gerontology focusing on the impact of dementia and intersectionality on ageing Australians. I advocate for the basic rights of our elders currently receiving aged care, disability and allied health services leading to my appointment to a board position as a non-executive director for a leading multicultural NFP organisation. I have worked in training and assessment for the past 8 years and am currently pursuing my master’s in vocational education and training.

With a Career spanning over 12 years as a Personal Trainer and Accredited Weight Management Practitioner my passion for helping people achieve long term sustainable health and weight loss results came from my own journey of significant permanent weight loss  success 25 years ago.  Originally from the Corporate business world  I founded and created my Personal Training business as a sole trader to then transition into my company Busyslim Pty Ltd here in Australia in 2014.

I continue to coach and educate people in both the private and corporate sectors on healthy living. I am a key note speaker educating corporate business employees on healthy eating in the workplace; a group weight loss coach, personal health and weight loss coach and a very experienced  Personal Trainer specialising in the over 40’s age bracket for men and woman. I am excited to use my knowledge and experience to be part of an organisation that is creating our future Weight Management Practitioners and making the difference in the fight against obesity.
